Beauty || May Favourites!

Left to Right: Bourjois Little Round Blush Pot in No.48 Rose Brune, Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder in No.52 Vanilla, Barry M Speedy Quick Dry Nail Paints in Eat My Dust and Pole Position, Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in Eastend Snob, Loreal Falsh Lash Architect Mascara & The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturiser.

I feel like this month has really been a back to basics month. No fancy skincare, no weird or wonderful products, just your basic, staple products from the highstreet. I have actually really enjoyed this and love how affordable everything has been!

This month, in terms of face makeup, I have really been loving the Bourjois Healthy Balance Compact Powder. It is great for setting makeup but doesn't look at all cakey. It goes on really lightly making it nice and buildable. I won't say much more as I have already reviewed it but as usual, Bourjois have done a great job. I have also been using the Bourjois Little Round Pot Blush in No. 48 Rose Brune. This is such a classic product but for some reason have never owned one! Small, compact and great for travelling but there is still a good amount of product. It is really pigmented and comes in so many different shades, there is something for everyone. The shade Rose Brune is perfect for me. Pinky, which goes with my complexion but with browny undertones, calming it down a little.

I found out recently that a lot of people say there is always a breaking in period with new mascaras and thinking about it, it is so true! At first, I didn't like the Loreal False Lash Architect Mascara. I couldn't put my finger on why though so I slung it aside. But when my current mascara had completely given out, I had to use it. And the more I do the more I like it. It is a fibre mascara, which means it great for thickening and does help give the false lash effect. It also does a great job at lengthening but still manages to keep lashes curled.
Another product that has been growing on me this month is the Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in the shade Eastend Snob. I am not great with lipliners and I always forget about them. But have been trying to convert myself and I think I have found a great one to start with. It is good quality, pigmented and doesn't smudge easily. For the price, I think its great and there is a nice shade range too. What more could I want?

So, it seems I cannot go a month without finding a new Body Shop product to love and this month it has been The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturiser. I reviewed it recently and gave it glowing review (see what I did there?) which you can check out here. It is has been so nourishing for my skin but is still very light. I have also seen a real improvement in how my skin feels. It also created a really nice base for my makeup and smells amazing!

Barry M are probably my favourite nail brand. I like having painted nails but its also not something I want to spend very much money on. So I always head to Barry M. I know that the products are always decent quality and they do such a good range of products for a brilliant price. The Speedy Quick Dry Nail Paints are something that immediately caught my eye as I am so impatient and ALWAYS smudge my nails. I was a little sceptical and although you need a good two or three coats, they dry so quickly that you more than make up the time! The shades I have been using are Eat My Dust and Pole Position which I have been alternating between all month.

Health || Abel & Cole Veg Box!

Although I enjoy eating a healthier diet and love eating lots of vegetables my organisational skills when it comes to eating are terrible. It often takes me 2 or 3 hours to decide what to eat for dinner, meaning I end up not eating till gone 10 o'clock at night! I am also terrible at breaking my routines and tend to cook the same things over and over again on rotation. So, I decided I needed a bit of a nudge to start engaging with some better eating habits! I have always loved the look of Veg Box subscription services but never really been sure about how it would work, what would be in it, would it all go to waste etc so when Abel & Cole contacted me letting me know they had an offer on at the moment, I kind of just caved. But! I am glad I did!

The Box I chose was the Small Veg Box for 1-2 People. It costs £10.50 and was delivered right to my door. If I am out it can be left in a safe place until your return. For me this is actually just outside of my flats door. It comes in a cardboard box but is wrapped in a large, thick plastic bag so it can be left outside for a length of time, no matter the weather. The box is also reusable and it designed to be left out for the delivery person to collect when your box is delivered.

This is picture of the veg contained in an Abel and Cole Small Veg box

The selection of veg changes each week and seasonally. This week I got Potatos, Red Onions, Red Pepper, Spring Greens, Asparagus and Leeks. One of the things that set Abel and Cole apart from a few other veg boxes services that I considered was the fact that I could rule out certain items. For instance this week the box said that Cucumber would be included. I don't really eat much cucumber so was able to cancel this specific item, which was then be replaced with another vegetable. This week it was a Red Pepper which is perfect for me and it was very useful to be able to replace items! You can rule out certain items permanently if you know you will never want them or just as a one time thing. The veg is all organic, really fresh and all arrives in great condition.

Abel & Cole also offer a really great variety of boxes, for example boxes with both fruit and veg, salad boxes, larger boxes etc. There are also many other products available ranging from desserts to household items to freshly baked breads. This week I added some eggs to my order and I am looking forward to try out some more of their extras. They all come delivered with your box and can be added to arrive every week with your box or just as a one time treat.

This is a free recipe book from Abel and Cole. The Veg Box Companion Recipe Book By Keith Abel.

Currently Abel & Cole are offering a free copy of their recipe book Veg Box Companion to anyone who signs up for a box if you add the code EATVEG at the checkout. It is actually a really nice recipe book with some great ideas. They are all very veg based (obviously) which is great for me as a vegetarian but it also does include many meat and fish recipes. There are also a lot of vegan recipes and clear labels informing of dietry requirements. The book also contains loads of lovely photographs if the recipes, which is something I love in a recipe book. You want to see what it should look like, right? Abel and Cole are also offering a 4th box free of charge when you sign up for a box at the moment included with the code EATVEG.

The Body Shop Deep Sleep Dreamy Body Mist.

This is a picture of The Body Shop Deep Sleep Dreamy Body Mist
The Body Shop Deep Sleep Dreamy Body Mist.
Sleep is something I have always struggled with, yet as with many others, I don't put enough importance into getting a good nights. I am somewhat of a troubled sleeper and I have tried a lot of things to help me drift off before. This has included plenty of sleep sprays, but nothing has ever really made a difference. So when I was in The Body Shop a few weeks back the Deep Sleep Dreamy Body Mist did catch my eye but I kind of dismissed it as just another great smelling, but nothing more, product. When however, I was told my rewards card had gifted me a free product I panicked and grabbed the Deep Sleep Dreamy Body Mist. I walked out of the shop, kicking myself for panicking as it wasn't what I really wanted but decided just to roll with it and give it a go that evening.

I know I say this a lot but when going to sleep that evening, I was pleasantly surprised! What I love about it is different from your average pillow spray. It is quite a sharp scent, which I would never think would be so relaxing but it really is. The main base for it is JuJube Date and Camomile. Camomile is a classic, relaxing scent but Jujube date is not something I had heard of. So I did my research and it is also known as the 'Chinese Date', used in chinese medicine. It is commonly used to alleviate stress and insomnia. From the ingredients I can also see a little orange and lemon fragrance as well as some citronella and a little lavender thrown in for good measure. All of these things together really do just make the dreamiest cocktail of relaxation. Since using I really have seen an improvement in both the quality of my sleep and the speed in which I fall to sleep.

Another thing that sets it apart is the idea of the 'Body Mist'. Rather than just an ordinary pillow spray it is designed to spray it on your body a short while before going to sleep. Then, throughout the night your moverments will release little bits of the scent. I am a little forgetful and an out of sight out of mind person so I often only remember to use it when I am actually in bed but it still works great. When I do have my act together a bit more though, I really like this body spray idea. Its a much gentler way to diffuse the fragrance and ensures for a steadier, consistent release.

Superfacialist by Una Brennan Vitamin C+ Skin Renew Cleansing Oil.

This a picture of the Super Facialist by Una Brennan Vitamin C+ Brighten Skin Renew Cleansing Oil
Super Facialist by Una Brennan Vitamin C+ Brighten Skin Renew Cleansing Oil.

I have been using the Super Facialist by Una Brennan Vitamin C+ Brighten Skin Renew Cleansing Oil (bit of a mouthful, I know!) for probably over a month now and it has definetly become a favourite of mine! For those of you maybe not familiar with cleansing oils, they are a very gentle, effective way to cleanse skin. The oil works by binding to makeup, dirt etc on the skin making it easier to rinse away. It also keeps the skins PH balanced, meaning calmer, healthier  skin. Many of the oils used in cleaning oils are naturally antibacterial also.

Firstly, I love it because it is just a brilliant cleanser. I use it both in the morning and at night to remove makeup. It works so quickly to just melt the makeup off my skin and then with a few splashes of water my makeup is all gone. I have never had any problems with even the most stubborn of mascara and every time I use it on eye makeup I am in disbelief as to how easily it has removed it. I sometimes find with more gentle cleansers that my skin doesn't feel completely clean after useage but with the Una Brennan Cleansing Oil my skin always feels very fresh and cleansed but also healthy after usage!

Secondly, it is gentle and nourishing. My skin gets very red, very easily and anytime I use a product that is even remotely harsh or strong it likes to flair up. Even the gentlest of cleansers usually have some effect! So when I first tried the Una Brennan Cleaning Oil I was very impressed as there was absolutely no change in redness. After using my skin looked very calm. I almost always have some form of breakouts on my skin and cleansing tends to aggravate them a little but this stuff is just so gentle that this was not a problem! The formula contains Olive, Rosehip and Grapeseed Oils to help nourish the skin as well as Rosemary and Cucumber Oil to help sooth. I love the mixture of these oils and can definitely see their nourishing and soothing effects! Overall, very good for sensitive skin!

Thirdly, there is just no fuss. It is so easy and quick to use and it saves me a lot of time and cotton wool pads! I know that when I get home after a long day or night out I can just get my makeup off in about 30 seconds and get myself into bed! I simply massage the oil into dry skin for around 10 to 20 seconds, wet my hands a little and then continue to massage for another few seconds making the oil go slightly foamy, then I rinse off with warm, running water. I love ease with my skincare products and this fits the bill perfectly!

The Super Facialist Vitamin C+ Brighten Skin Renew Cleansing Oil is available from most Boots stores and online for £10.99!

Health || It Begins!

Really not my finest photography moments but I couldn't miss an opportunity inspirational collage!
Health is something that is very central to my life. My health is not that great and I suffer with a few different medical conditions that have an impact daily. Because of these I have to be quite mindful of my overall health and neglecting it for even a short time can have pretty bad consequences. This, for me, can be a bit of a nightmare. Not only do my health problems often leave me with very little energy but I am kind of a lazy person. For whatever reason, I always have, probably always will be, a little lazy. Which means that all this extra mindfulness and being careful is usually met with a giant eye roll. Sadly, as eye rolls cannot cure ailments, it still has to get done.

Whilst I am quite a healthy person in some aspects, it is very much a process and has been a reluctant one at that. I am definitely not alone in this! I think one of the biggest challenges to improving your health is that it is such a process, it is so many little things, rather than just one change. Because of this I wanted to create a space to be able to talk, share stories, experiences and things I have learned along the way. My health and the aim to treat my body well is something that I am constantly learning about. I am looking forward to have a space where I can hopefully document some of this and also have an extra reason to try out new things and stay motivated. I am not sure, yet, how detailed I will be regarding my own health problems/medical issues, but it is something I do want to be able to share. Saying this, it is also personal so I do not want to pressure myself to share things I am very uncomfortable with! Whilst I am anticipating finding some of this very difficult, for example all forms of exercise, I am very excited to share recipes and dietary information. Those that know me, know my favourite thing is food and it is always on my mind! Due to my health problems I do have to be careful with what I eat so I foresee a lot of recipes being shared as I love talking about food almost as much as eating it! For instance, I have managed to make it dominate this post already!

For me this is not about weight loss or dieting and I have no intention of setting goals or targets. It is about keeping my body in good working order, no more, no less. This may include dietary changes, will definitely include exercise and moving around more but the only body I am setting out to achieve will be a happy and healthy (ish) one! Now I have written this post, it means I have to go out and do it, doesn't it?

Wish me luck!

The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturiser!

The Body Shop Moisturisers Review
The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturiser for Dull, Tired and Grumpy Skin.

I first noticed The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturiser in store a couple of weeks ago and agonised about whether or not to buy. At this point my sister was dragging me out of the store, so I figured I would buy it online if I still wanted it. Went home, went online, wasn't available yet. Gutted. Luckily I had been given a sample to try so decided that the gods were telling me to try before I buy and stop being so impatient. This only annoyed me more as I absolutely loved it. *Goes straight to store, buys it*

The smell is definitely the first thing that caught my attention. Its one of those products that smell so good you have to stop yourself from just eating a little. I can almost imagine adding a little tequila and having myself a good night! It's very citrusy and a little sweet but nothing overpowering. Its really lovely to use in the mornings and helps me feel refreshed and a little more awake for the day ahead.

The only thing I don't love is that is is rather sticky. It is sticky to the point of being a little annoying and this does take about a minute to go away. I don't mind this too much, as for the sake of a brilliant moisturiser I can hang around a little longer. Once over the stickiness has gone and it has sunken in my skin feels so lovely. Not just to the touch either, it actually feels more awake, nourished and stops that horrible tight feeling my skin sometimes gets. I can really see why it is aimed at 'Dull, tired, grumpy skin'! I love that after using it I can really see a glowing effect to my skin, very much like The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum in Oil gives. Although very nourishing, it still manages to be quite light. My skin is combination, oily and I thought that this may be a little too much but it works really well. It also gives a great base for my makeup, allowing it to apply really smooth and evenly.

Another bonus for me is the packaging. Although its a little large and the shape doesn't make it too great for travelling it sits on my dressing table really nicely. As a moisturiser is such a necessity I want it to be a decent enough size so it stands out and isn't constantly falling over and getting lost in the mess. Its also very sturdy and secure so accidents and spillages are unlikely!

Beauty || Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder

Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder in the Shade 52 Vanille.
Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder in the Shade 52 Vanille.
I have recently been trying to experiment with new powders as they are something I tend to neglect. Even though they are such a staple in my routine, I don't really get excited about them as I would, say, a foundation, meaning they end up a little forgotten. So, in my attempts to rectify this, I turned to Bourjois for some help! The Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder is something I have had my eye on for a while after seeing so many recommendations from other bloggers. I have also always loved Bourjois, being a great fan of their foundations and blushes, so I was feeling pretty confident about the Healthy Balance Powder. I was not disappointed!

I have been using the Healthy Balance Powder for a few weeks now and I have really been liking it. It is quite a light powder, so it goes on in very fine layers. This makes it build able, giving better control of coverage. It also means it doesn't stick or gather in any lines looking cakey. Another thing I have noticed is how well it sets my foundation and controls shine/oiliness on my face. This is something I tend to struggle with quite a lot and I have been noticing that my makeup has been staying on longer and looking much more even throughout the day! It also has the added bonus of smelling like many of the bourjois products. That really fresh apricot smell that is perfect for summer and actually helps lift my mood a little in those early starts before work! I also really like the packaging. There is no sponge (that no one likes anyway!) meaning that it is very slim and compact making it much easier for travelling. It also means that the mirror can be as big as possible, which as I don't carry a separate mirror, is very useful!

Have you tried the Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder yet?
